Murtosa is a Portuguese town, located in the Aveiro district, Centro region, and Aveiro Region sub-region, with about 3 700 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 73.09 km² in area and 10 585 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is divided in two by the north arm of the Aveiro estuary. The main territory, where the village is located, is limited to the northeast by the municipality of Estarreja and to the south, it connects to the municipalities of Albergaria-a-Velha and Aveiro via the Ria de Aveiro, which also surrounds it to the west. The secondary territory is limited to the north, by land, by the municipality of Ovar and to the south by that of Aveiro, and has a coastline on the Aveiro estuary to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
The municipality of Murtosa is divided into 4 parishes: Bunheiro; Monte; Murtosa; Torreira.
