FREITA MOUNTAIN (SERRA DA FREITA) - (PORTUGAL)

 


SERRA DA FREITA

40° 52′ 00,02″ N, 8° 16′ 00″ W

The Freita mountain range has a maximum altitude of 1100 meters, next to Detrelo da Malhada, parish of Moldes in the Municipality of Arouca).

It is arranged in a northwest-southeast orientation and extends through the parish of Albergaria da Serra, in the extreme southeast of the municipality of Arouca, through the parishes of Manhouce and Valadares, at the western tip of the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, and through the parishes of Arões and Cepelos, in the extreme northeast of the municipality of Vale de Cambra.

Two of its natural attractions are the Frecha da Mizarela waterfall (the highest in mainland Portugal) and the Pedras Parideiras in the parish of Castanheira.

There are also sports and leisure activities such as: climbing (of various levels) and hiking trails.

It is part of the Gralheira massif, together with the Arada mountain range, the Arestal mountain range and the São Macário mountain range.

The Caima river has its source here in the parish of Albergaria da Serra and its soil is essentially granite.
